Things to Love About Audio Books!

Where have I been?!? I don’t know? I think I slipped into another dimension on accident?  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have bounced back into the blogging groove! Finally!

Also today’s Top Ten Tuesday Topic is an “Audio Freebie” !!!!! And considering I just finished my very first audio book recently, I figured I’d come here to scream about how amaaaaaaaazing it was!!!

ON WITH THE POST!

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted at That Artsy Reader Girl, in which bloggers and readers alike can scream together about books but in different topics each week!

I honestly can’t believe that I knew Audio Books existed but did nothing about it. It was amazing! I am in awe! Shame on my past self for not giving them a chance!

The story LITERALLY comes to life!

When I read somewhere that audio books bring the story to life I was like, but how? Like a movie? Is it sorcery?

But it really does. It was like listening to a movie. I have the Illuminae Audio book……. I’ve already read Illuminae (I’ve read the whole trilogy, which was amazing btw) But I felt like re-reading it and everyone said that the Audio for Illuminae was amazing. So I tried it.

And it was ALIVE! Illuminae had a full cast Audio Book and I can’t even begin to tell you how awesome it was! I was amazed! And AIDAN!

Oh my gosh. AIDAN was perfect.

I cried again at the end too. Even though I knew what was going to happen, I still sobbed. In my car. Right before class. It was beautiful.

THE PRODUCTIVITY!

I got so much done while listening to this audio book? Like. I was productive, and doing things that I would usually neglect to read, while progressing with my reading goals. At the same time.

*mind blown*

I thought that I’d just be sitting there and listening to it, but I could actually focus on tasks WHILE listening to it! This is amazing to me! Who knew I could read (or have a book read to me?) AND do other things at the same time?!?

Audio Books Makes Commutes So Much More Fun!

Every time I have to drive to Uni, it takes 30mins to get there and then 30mins back. So 1 hour total. I usually listen to music, but sometimes I don’t feel like listening to music?

BUT LISTENING TO AN AUDIO BOOK!

!!!!!!

It was so much more fun! Definitely made the journey seem a lot shorter, which was always sad because I want to listen to more.

Sometimes I’d carry on listening once I was home. I love Illuminae, it was very hard to stop okay?

They Last AAAGEEEEESSSS!

Which is a good thing! Though I guess it depends on what book you’re reading?

Most of the audio books I looked at seemed to be about 10 hours long (Illuminae was almost 12 hours).

Listening to them definitely makes time go faster. Time sorcery….

Dooo-weee-ooooooooo eee-yoo-ooooooooo…..

Super Easy To Take Anywhere!

If you take your phone and your headphones (or just play it out loud?), you got your book. You can go for a walk, while listening to a book. You can go for a RUN, while listening to a book.

Adventuring AND fulfilling reading goals!

Just try not to get so lost in the book that you get lost in real life. I don’t think your audio book can tell you how to get out of that forest you’ve wondered into.

Overall, I really really really really LOVED the audio experience!

Especially because it was Illuminae. That was a good choice. *pats self on back*

I love Illuminae, I loved the Audio Book for Illuminae. I will definitely be trying some other audio books out soon!

Let's talk

Have you tried out audio books before?? Did you enjoy the experience? Which books have you listened too that you recommend? HAVE YOU TRIED THE ILLUMINAE AUDIO BOOK?? I highly recommend it if you haven’t! It’s got super cool special effects and space sounds!!

I love how audiobooks give me the ability to be reading yet still be productive. It’s magic. 🙂 I read Illuminae in print because I loved the graphics but I’ll definitely have to give it a listen for a future re-read!

    1. It really is magical! My mind is still trying to process that I can do productive stuff AND still make progress on my reading goals AT THE SAME TIME! 😮
The graphics in the books were gorgeous! I really liked the outside the spaceship ones (where Kady goes out in the suit and the words are in a bounce pattern thing)
I listened to the audio for a re-read and it made me love the trilogy even more! I highly recommend it! I hope you enjoy it! ❤

Illuminae was amazing! It was so atmospheric and beautifully crafted, from the cast to the music! I can’t recommend it enough! I will scream about it for 5 centuries at least! 😂😂

    1. Me too! There seems to be so many good ones out there. We just gotta find them! *wanders into an ominous cave in search of golden audio books*
It took me a while to figure out how the app works! 😂 It wasn’t even that complicated! I over complicated it by pressing all the buttons 😂

  3. I was just thinking about picking up some audiobooks – YOU COMPLETELY READ MY MIND. 12 hours is a long time, but I do usually listen to podcasts while walking around campus and at the gym, and I think I probably listen to 3-4 hour-ish long podcasts…*tries to do math in head* idk how long that is but time! I’m just so attached to the physical process of reading, but I think I might try out a nonfiction book to test the waters. That way I’m not thinking “hm, I wish I would have read this instead.” Yay for audiobooks!

    1. *wiggly fingers* I know all your thoughts! Soon you will want….. A COFFEE!
12 hours is actually a really long time… Now that I think about it. But it goes FAST! TIME MAGIC I TELL YOU! Especially if it’s a book your enjoying! *leans closer to whisper, checks surrounding suspiciously* Apparently the audio book for The Scorpio Races is really good. I know we’ve both read it already but… It has two narrators, one for Sean and one for Puck…. Apparently the story becomes MORE whimsical, if you can believe! Am I gonna try it? Yes. I think I will. Sorry TBR.
I adore physical reading and forever will, I think what I’m gonna struggle with is alternating between audio and physical book… I’m gonna work on that. 😂
Yay for audios! Let me know how you like them! ❤️

      1. Okay so first of all I am always thinking about coffee. Always. It’s 7:30 at night and I am right now thinking about iced coffee…..

So you actually convinced me to try audiobooks! I got the app Libby on my phone, and it lets me check out ebooks and audiobooks from my library back home. 🙂 I was like “this is going to take me forever to read one book” but I’m almost done with the Hazlewood which is 10 hours long. I sped the read speed up though to like 1.75x faster lol. I never knew how much time I had to listen to audiobooks.

MY LIBRARY HAS SCORPIO RACES SO YUP. If you need me for the next 12 hours you know where to find me. (okay I actually want to read Holding Up the Universe next even though I didn’t like All the Bright Places but! I’ll get to Scorpio Races asap…again lol)

        1. Oh my gosh…. It’s 7:50pm right now and I was just thinking about going to get my iced coffee out of the fridge!! XD ARE YOU PSYCHIC TOO???
          *high-pitched screaming*
YAYAYYYAYAYAYAY! I’m so glad! I though it would take ages too, but nope….. not long enough. I was surprised that I had so much time where I could listen to an Audiobook too? *points at the sky* YOU NEED TO STOP THIS, YOU MEDDLING TIME WIZARDS! I KNOW IT’S YOU!
I haven’t tried changing the speed yet, I’m scared I’m gonna break it or worse… miss the story completely XD
HAHAHAHA! YEEEEEEES! GO! READ ALL THE BOOKS! And re-read! I am for sure gonna get it as soon as I can too! To read again. XD

I listened to it while I walked to class once, and it was very fun. I haven’t tried running while listening yet. But I will try it! And hope I don’t fall over if there are suprise special effect noises like in Illuminae! 😂

AM SO HERE FOR THE AUDIOBOOK LOVE! And agreed: Illuminae is such a fantastic one. 😍all audiobooks should be dramatised. 10/10. I also love how hard they are to stop sometimes? Like I’ll be working and listening to an audio, then need to pause to go somewhere else, but nooo I want to keep listening. 😂

    1. YEEEESSSSS! Illuminae was so beautiful! *sobs* I know right?! I would leave my room with headphones in, listening to the audio book, and then someone will try to talk to me?? Excuse me mama. I came for some water and snack. Not socialisation? But OK? (it’s usually just her asking if I’m OK. No mam. AIDAN is having an identity crisis and sO AM I!!)
