Oh, The Things I’ve Done For The Love Of Books

Let’s be honest here.

We all get a little crazy whenever we spy something bookish that we love and want.

Like, you’ll be going about your normal day when BAM! You just glimpsed the bookstore! Now your heart is beating faster and you’re now wheezing, oh no! It looks like you’ve wandered into the bookstore by accident. Welcome home.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted at That Artsy Reader Girl, in which bloggers and readers alike can scream together about books but in different topics each week!

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt is “Craziest things I’ve done for the love of books!”

Okay. So. I haven’t done 10 crazy things because of my love for books, I have SOME self control…. *crickets*

Or… not.

Chances are that I’ve done “something crazy” so many times that it doesn’t seem crazy to me anymore.

But I know I’ve done a few things. Let me list ’em!

Sleep is for the Weak, she said on the brink of collapse.

I think we’ve all stayed up past a reasonable bed time to read. Because sometimes finding out what happens to our friends while they are on their quest is waaaaaay more important than sleep. (But sleep is important too. Take care of yourselves friends.)

I have stayed up all night to read, and it wasn’t until I had finished the book that I looked at the time. Which is almost always either 6am or 7am, which is the time I usually wake up.

And if I went to sleep after finishing the book, then I’d be sleeping away the day and by the time night time comes around, I would be too well rested to go to sleep and so the cycle repeats.

I’m constantly torn between reading all the things at night, and saving my sleep schedule.

Thank the gods for coffee… and really good snacks.

Goodbye Bed

Even though I only had a single bed. It took up a lot of room and it fit really awkwardly into my teeny tiny room. So, it had to go.

I needed the space for bookshelves.

Instead I have a sofa-bed thingy which takes up less space AND when I fold it out into Bed Mode it’s a small double size so more space to do the starfish! Folding it out usually mean I have to schooch my desk a little but it’s fine.

It’s also pretty comfortable.

The red carpet is a little out of place, I know. 16 year old me though that having a red sparkly carpet was super cool, so here we are. My rug will never be big enough to hide it…

Bought Book Ends

I know this doesn’t seem that crazy but it’s crazy for me since I’ve never trusted them. I’ve always thought they looked a little flimsy and breakable, but the ones I’ve got are holding up pretty good against the onslaught of books filled to the brim with tears and blood.

Now I have 3 bookshelves… and I ran out of space. BUT THERE WAS ROOM ON TOP OF THEM!

So, I bought book ends to maintain the flow of the bookshelf.

Also, I’m gonna need more space for books soon because all the space is filling up and I don’t ever plan to stop buying and reading books… nor will I part with any of my preciouses.

    1. Thank you!! My bookshelves know they’re pretty and demand more new books every hour 😂😂 SLEEP IS FOR THE WEAK! (and me because I am an old lady in a younger person’s body)

  1. I’ve definitely stayed up late reading before! I’ve also fallen asleep with my head in plenty of books before when I’ve attempted to stay awake reading and been too tired! 🙂

    1. I’ve done that too! Sometimes I’ve fallen asleep while reading and have to try and find my book again in the morning. It always falls in the most unexpected places, I found a book I had fallen asleep reading half way across my room once. 😂 I think I accidently kicked it off my bed while I was sleeping 😂😂

    1. YES! BYE BYE BED! MY BOOKS NEED THAT SPACE!
Those are some awesome names though! Books have a lot of good names in them, it would be a crime not to bring them into reality XD

  2. Well beds DO take up space, and let’s be honest sometimes we need that space for all the books. So… seems reasonable. 🙂 And yes sleep often has to be sacrificed, sadly, for the sake of finishing a book. It’s amazing sometimes I can even FUNCTION after staying up too late to read! but do I learn? Nooooo

Your shelves look awesome! I love color coded…

    1. They do! We don’t realise how much space they take up until we are trying to squeeze in another bookshelf!
All I can say is thank you to coffee for making me a little more human after an all nighter.
Will we ever learn? No… probably not XD

Thank you! The only problem with reading so much fantasy is the darkness of their covers stopping me from having the ultimate rainbow shelves T . T I managed a small one though! YAY! ❤

  3. I’m drooling over your bookshelves… so pretty… This is the first time I’ve heard of someone giving up their bed for books! Yet, it makes sense. I used to stay up till all hours reading… then I had children.
I like the art featuring Beauty and the Beast, did you paint it?

    1. I spend most of my time staring at my bookshelves than I do reading XD
Hahaha, for a single bed it did take up a lot of room. It just had to go. My books are happy now, that’s what matters. XD
Ahhh, yes I can see how children would prevent you from staying up late. I have a younger brother who had more energy than like 100 people combined, so sometimes I don’t stay up because he wants to do something the next day. It’s exhausting.
I love it too! No I didn’t, I can only wish I was that good at art. I got it in a Fairyloot box a few months back! (On insta the artist is: Haleigh DeRocher @sweetsequels) ❤

  4. I haven’t stayed up super late reading in forever. *cries* College usually tires me out by the end of the day, and if it doesn’t, I’m too afraid to push my limits and stay up late because I know I’ll be tired the next day lol. But your bookshelves look so pretty! I’m running out of room and I’m going to have to buy a new one soon which … will be interesting.

    1. I know what you mean. I like to plan ahead if I’m going to stay up late (gotta stock up on coffee and snacks, so that I’m still alive come morning) but sometimes I’m just too tired.
Thank you! My shelves are my pride and joy! ❤
Me too. I literally have no space for another bookshelf though… unless I get rid of my door….. Then I could use the space behind it. (My parents likely won't let me get rid of my door XD )

  5. I also like to pretend I have some self control, but when it comes to a good book I don’t need sleep I just need to know how its going to end. The last time I stayed up reading super late has to be last month when I read until about 5 am. I regret nothing.

    1. Saaaaame! Sorry sleep, this book needs my attention until its ran out of pages!
Ooo. 5 am is that time when you look at the clock and the only 2 things you can think about are; book, and “oh mi gud. 5ses ams. sleepses plez” XD
